Andrea Vale’s experience as a Senior Show Producer was put to the test when she was invited by Artists in Motion (AIM) to work on the ambitious project WHY? The Musical, created by acclaimed director Shekhar Kapur and featuring music and lyrics by A.R. Rahman.

The goal of the project was to create a multicultural global story with Emirati culture at its heart, a task that required careful planning and execution.

Over the course of two years, Andrea worked tirelessly to bring the show to life, working closely with the talented content creators at AIM, Staging Director Nikos Lagousakos, world class scenic designers, costume designers and choreographers to bring the Musical to life. With a cast of performers hailing from 32 different countries, 8 original songs inspired from all corners of the globe, the musical aimed to tell a complex story of cultural exchange and exploration. All set under the magnificent dome of Al Wasl Plaza, which was fully projection mapped to create an immersive and dynamic environment for the audience.

As the show came to fruition, it was clear that Andrea and the wider team had succeeded in creating something truly special. WHY? The Musical ran for 10 weeks during the World Expo Dubai 2020, attracting audiences from all over the world who were captivated by the show’s message of unity and diversity.

With its innovative staging, diverse cast, and powerful message, WHY? The Musical is a testament to the power of art to bring people together and to inspire meaningful change. Under Andrea’s leadership, the project was able to fulfill its vision of celebrating Emirati culture while also showcasing the beauty and richness of multiculturalism on a global stage.
